days of being wild

Tonight they showed a movie in school called "Days of Being Wild" (original title: A Fei jing juen"). It's one of the early movies from writer/director Wong Kar-Wai (happy together, in the mood for love, 2046). The only problem was that the film was spoken in chinese and subbed in portuguese, so trying to figure out the story felt like pissing in the wind at times. But the movie really captured some sort of film-noir feeling, the director created some fine atmospheric scenes and the story was basically about the distance in several different relation-ships. The camera follows a half dozen protagonists through their individual quests for an intimate connection. In their search they only seem to get the chance to create a 'one minute friendship' that might seem phenomenal in that certain moment but doesn't offer any satisfaction, so eventually it comes to an end. While the quest continues the movie raises the question if living your entire life in search of friendship and love actually is a life worth living...
